There’s a new kid in town and I can’t wait to introduce you! Filled with unique buys from A group of different locally owned boutiques, KINDRED is unlike any other store in Kansas City. This new concept opened at the end of the December, perfect timing to be featured in my very first AbbyWoodWear dressing room diaries series! So this is how dressing room diaries are going to work… I am going to scout some of my favorite brands and stores in the KC area and put together some of my favorite looks that I think you (my amazing readers) will love. I will be sharing info about fit, fabric and how to style. And first up, I am taking you inside Kindred!
If you aren’t familiar with Kindred yet, let me give you the inside scoop. Located at Oak Park Mall (right next to the entrance to Nordstrom) Kindred is a boutique collective. A group of local boutique owners gathered together into one location but merchandised like a department store. Genius. Stop in to see select items from Adorn by Jewelry Girl, Ensemble, Everyday Runway, Hello Do Good, Knitted Belle Boutique, Made in KC, Mended Wing, Pink Antlers Studio, Ruby Rouge, Scoobie, Tomboy, Vintage Haven and Wild Sun, No more “booth shopping” that can limit your buying…instead you can shop by color on beautifully merchandised racks, and try on your treasures in the coolest dressing rooms in town. (Remind me to tell you about the green velvet couch that I wish was mine!) Kindred isn’t just a store, it’s an experience. And I can’t wait to show you some of my favorite finds that are available right now!
LOOK 1
Olive Green Skinny Jean-Ensemble $72
White Ribbed Turtleneck-Adorn by Jewelry Girl $72
Plaid Menswear Blazer-Ensemble $68
I am always on the lookout for olive colored denim. It’s a tough item to find and one of the only colored denim options that I approve of (besides burgundy). These jeans are branded JUST BLACK. They have a mid-rise waist and have just the slightest bit of stretch. They run true to size (I bought my normal Size 28). From experience, I can tell that the fabric will stretch just a little so be careful not to purchase these too big! I paired them with a darling lettuce hem white ribbed turtleneck that I would put in a basic’s category. It is an awesome layering piece. It runs a little small, I am wearing a size large. To finish the look, I added a menswear inspired blazer (these are all the rage right now). The blazer is an oversized fit so I would size down. For reference I am wearing a size small. I loved this look because each piece could be worn with multiple things in my closet. Also a perfect business casual look!
LOOK 2
Olive Green Skinny Jean-Ensemble $72
Chunky Knit Sweater-Knitted Belle Boutique $60
Grey Wool Hat-Scoobie $26
Wanting to show you another option for these colored jeans, I decided to pair them with one of my new favorite sweaters. For months I have been looking for the perfect chunky loose turtleneck sweater and well friends…the search is over. This sweater is thick and the drape is amazing. Great with the olive jeans, regular blue denim, black denim or even white denim for that perfect winter white look! This sweater runs true to size and I am wearing a medium. I might size up for that “overly” oversized look that I love. I am all about that half tuck with my tops and that goes for sweaters too! To finish off this casual date night look, I added a darling grey wool hat. Hats (when appropriate) will elevate any look!
LOOK 3
Multi-colored Fur Jacket-Adorn by Jewelry Girl $74.99
Logo T-shirt-Adorn by Jewelry Girl $48.99
Boyfriend Jean-Mended Wing $69
Totally my style, I love dressing up a t-shirt with something glam. This pink multi-colored faux fur coat makes a huge statement. Whenever a statement piece is involved I always like to make it the star of the show, which is why I paired it with this adorable logo t-shirt (that says Just Love) and boyfriend jeans. In reality, I would wear this look with my vans. The t-shirt runs small (I am wearing a large) and the boyfriend jeans run true to size but the rise is lower than I am used to. This is such a fun glam tomboy look.
LOOK 4
Striped Mock Turtleneck-Ruby Rouge $34.50
Vintage Leather Vest-Wild Sun $150
Did you know that Kindred offers new AND resale pieces? I love to shop vintage but sometimes I don’t have the time. I love that I can shop an already curated collection of fun vintage pieces right here at the mall! Wanting to pair “new with old”, I pulled an amazing black leather western style vest (with fringe and everything) and paired it with a striped mock neck turtleneck that I would wear ALL THE TIME. Who doesn’t love stripes? This top runs true to size (I am wearing a medium) and is super soft! Would be great on it’s own or paired underneath a blazer or leather jacket.
LOOK 5
Blush Pearl Embellished Knit Hoodie-Adorn by Jewelry Girl $64.99
White KC Ball Cap-Made in KC $35
Option: Layer with Plaid Menswear Blazer-Ensemble $68
Always in search of that dressed up athleisure look, I was instantly drawn to this blush sweater hoodie with pearl embellishments. The fit is more cropped so I would most likely wear it with a higher waisted pant or legging. To style it sportier, add a MADE IN KC ball cap for those bad hair days. Or you can layer the hoodie with a third piece like a blazer or leather jacket.
LOOK 6
3-in-one Grey Chenille sweater-Adorn by Jewelry Girl $39.99
This sweater was super soft! Normally I wouldn’t be drawn to this color of grey but thought I would give it a try and ended up really liking it! It runs a little small so I would size up. What I loved most about this piece was its versatility. Wear it off the shoulder, style it as a one shoulder or pull the neck down and wear as a cowl neck. 1 sweater, 3 styles! Don’t forget the sweater half tuck to nip in your waistline!
LOOK 7
Black Lace Camisole-Scoobie $34.30
Striped Duster Sweater-Everyday Runway $44
Grey Wool Hat-Scoobie $26
I love the balance of fancy and casual so I pulled this gorgeous lace backed camisole and paired it with this fun striped sweater duster. The camisole runs a little small (I am wearing a large) and the duster runs true to size. I love this combo with high waisted jeans and with a fun wool hat! Throw the striped duster over leggings and a t-shirt to go to your workout or with a top-to-bottom black on black look for that super sophisticated feel.
LOOK 8
Vintage Navy and White Striped Blouse-Wild Sun $44
Vintage Belt-Wild Sun $20
I was instantly drawn to this striped blouse because it looks JUST like a designer blouse I have been lusting after. Vertical stripes are always a great idea! When shopping vintage, make sure to look for fabrics that can withstand the test of time…like polyester. Even though it is a synthetic fabric, it will normally wash well, last and doesn’t wrinkle! Because this striped blouse has that totally classic feel, I added this vintage 70’s clip belt to make it look more relaxed. Paired with my own high waisted jean, this look is my fave. Simple and classic. You never know what treasures you will find when shopping vintage!
All of these items are still available at Kindred. But hurry, they won’t be there very long. Make sure to take the time to stop by and visit this new shopping spot and tell them your friend Abby sent you!
I love this new series! 🙂 Also, favorite look is the olive green skinny jeans and chunky knit sweater! SOOO Cute on you! xo Jana | http://www.janastyleblog.com
