A large part of personal styling, is helping clients make the most of their wardrobe. The “key” to having a well working wardrobe, is owning pieces in their closet that are mult-functional. Often times, I will hear my clients use the term garanimals in regards to how they want their wardrobe to work…this is usually followed up with a giggle (because garanimals are clothes for toddlers), but the underlining concept is pretty much exactly what we are trying to accomplish! Build your wardrobe with pieces you love and that will function in “multiple” ways for you. Now, this doesn’t mean you can only buy boring solid neutrals, it just means that if you find something you love, make sure you know WHY you love them and then think of at least 2 different ways to wear it. If you can come up with that, then bring it home!

For example, last week I stumbled upon the most darling pair of pants from the Kindred Shops from the shop Adorn by Jewelry girl. I can always find unique pieces at Kindred and I love styling them in ways that other people wouldn’t think of! And Adorn has lots of fun items that are always on trend! The pants I had my eye on were not a classic staple, but something about them really intrigued me. So I did some quick homework and started my checklist in my head to see WHY I loved them. This is what I came up with:

  1. The pattern….STRIPES. I love vertical stripes because they are elongating to my somewhat short legs. Check!
  2. The fabric was lightweight. I have been looking for lighter-weight pants because of how hot it already is here in Kansas. Check!
  3. Rust orange is a color I have been adding into my wardrobe this summer and so the color would integrate with some pieces I already own. Check!
  4. The style. I have been searching for the perfect cropped wide leg pant! Check!

Next I had to think about 2 different ways to wear them. So I put my thinking cap on and came up with a daytime look and an evening look!

Daytime Look

These pants fit higher up on the waist so pairing them with a shorter top is a great balance act. I chose this ivory open knit tank (also from Adorn) for the daytime look and paired it with a flat sandal. This look is perfect for running errands and weekend day activities. My summertime third piece? My hat! Besides, you should always protect your face from the sun! The look is casual yet polished!

Evening Look

Wanting to step it up a notch I found this amazing rust lace camisole also from Adorn to pull out the rust color in the pant a little bit more. Then to zuzsh it up a bit, I added these gold crinkle ankle strap sandals. I elevated the look even more with some gold jewelry. This look is perfect for a night out with the girls, date night or summer night events. I added this adorable ark purse for a finishing touch.

So the next time you are out and about shopping and fall in love with something, do your homework, finish your checklist of and make sure you know a couple of ways you want to wear it. This quick trick will help you make more focused buying decisions in regards to your wardrobe and make you feel better about spending your money!
