Happy 2018 friends! The past year was one of the greatest years ever, but I didn’t get the chance to blog as much as I wanted to. So…MY new year’s resolution is to blog! And I thought what better way to start 2018 then with some tips for how you can evolve your personal style…Starting with the 5 ABBYWOODWEAR style commandments!

Chances are, you are making resolutions right and left. But, have you ever given any thought to what resolutions you should make in regards to your personal style? You start everyday in your closet, making it one of the most important places in your home so finding ways to improve your style should be high on your list. Don’t neglect getting dressed in style in 2018! So what should your 2018 Style Resolutions be? Take a tip from the pro and keep reading…

COMMANDMENT 1: I will not buy the same item in 5 different colors just out of convenience (unless I REALLY love it).

Have you ever heard the saying that sometimes there can be too much of a good thing? This saying rings true in the wardrobe department too. If you are buying too much of the same thing, you are missing out on other options that help evolve your style. Don’t get stuck in a rut, if you love something…buy it and then remember that you like that STYLE and maybe you can find something similar to it…but maybe another day. Variety is the spice of life and style!

COMMANDMENT 2: Implement the one in one out policy.

If you are a fashion trend follower like me, then you probably have a tendency to have more “stuff” in your closet than the average person. You like to wear items a couple of times before you grow tired of it. So when you tend to collect a little bit too much in your closet, it is difficult to navigate through what you have. If you are this person, why not implement “the one in one out” policy in place. If you feel like you have to have that new pair of booties, then find another pair of shoes that can leave the closet. This is a way to purge your closet on an ongoing basis and really think about your needs vs. your wants…because at the end of the day, if you are willing to sacrifice something you already have, you must really want that something new!

COMMANDMENT 3: I won’t listen to rules that have been around since the beginning of time that would stop me from wearing something I really want to.

White in the winter? Do it. Pairing black and navy? Approve. Sneakers with dresses? Absolutely. Part of the style process is finding ways to wear clothes that speak to you and your personality. Don’t let out of date rules manage your wardrobe. If you aren’t sure about something, ask for guidance from a friend or your favorite stylist…me!

COMMANDMENT 4: I will make a list for when I go shopping for my wardrobe.

Lots of people make grocery lists. It helps them stay on budget and buy ONLY the things that are needed so the refrigerator doesn’t get too full. So why not make a wardrobe shopping list! Think of your closet like your refrigerator, you don’t want to over fill it. Because if you do, items will get lost and then expire (or go out of style). Plus, checking things off a list gives you that organized feeling that will help you feel better about your purchases.

COMMANDMENT 5: From now on, I will shop with strategy!

If you are going to Target to buy groceries, JUST buy groceries. Don’t get me wrong, Target has a couple of very hip collections that I love like WHOWHATWEAR and A NEW DAY. But, if you are going to the store for groceries and you end up buying clothes, then the clothing buying decisions you make are most likely going to end up being afterthoughts. And more times than not, the pieces you buy from a “groceries run” will sit in your closet and collect dust because you bought them on impulse. So how about trying something new. In 2018, try revamping your buying habits and be more intentional about what you buy for your wardrobe. You might surprise yourself and actually SAVE money too!

BUT…since it’s the New Year and I know most of you will be stopping by your local SuperTarget in the next week or so, I thought I would give you a FREE SHOPPING LIST and some FREE STYLE ADVICE!  This following list includes all of my favorite items from the latest WHOWHATWEAR collection sold exclusively at Target. The following 12 pieces can be mixed and matched together OR with your current wardrobe.  Bonus: if you click on the pics below, it will take you to the link where you can instantly buy it! If you have questions on which pieces go best with which, I would be happy to help! Feel free to leave questions in the comments below and I will answer them!

I hope everyone has had a very Happy New Year so far…and I look forward to hearing all about how you are evolving your style in 2018!
